Anantashayana Vishnu – Lord of Cosmic Balance By Krutik
/
Description
Description
This artwork by Krutik, portrays the sacred and cosmic moment of Anantashayana Vishnu — Lord Vishnu reclining on Sheshnag (Ananta), the infinite serpent, upon the cosmic ocean (Ksheer Sagar). It is not a depiction of sleep, but of divine stillness — the pause from which creation itself arises.
At the center lies Lord Vishnu, the sustainer of all creation, embodying infinite consciousness, stability, and cosmic order. His serene posture reflects a moment where time itself pauses, yet existence continues effortlessly.
Goddess Lakshmi – At His Feet
Devi Lakshmi, Vishnu’s eternal consort and the goddess of prosperity, is seated near his feet, massaging them gently. This classical depiction signifies that while Vishnu rests in Yoga-Nidra, Lakshmi remains active, ensuring the continuous flow of abundance, harmony, and well-being throughout the universe. Her presence confirms the divine truth that prosperity never sleeps when righteousness prevails.
Bhū Devi – At His Head
At Vishnu’s head side sits Bhū Devi, another consort of Lord Vishnu and the personification of Earth itself. Her placement symbolizes stability, grounding, nourishment, and material existence.
With Lakshmi at the feet and Bhū Devi at the head, Vishnu is shown as the protector of both spiritual abundance and the physical world, maintaining equilibrium between heaven and earth.
Lord Brahma – Birth of Creation
From Vishnu’s nābhi (navel) emerges a fully bloomed lotus, upon which sits Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe. This sacred imagery conveys a profound metaphysical principle: Creation arises from stillness, not chaos. Brahma’s emergence from Vishnu signifies that all creation originates from the preserver himself.
Sheshnag & Ksheer Sagar
Sheshnag, the infinite serpent, forms Vishnu’s resting bed. He represents eternal time, cosmic cycles, subconscious energy, and infinite support. The Ksheer Sagar beneath symbolizes the primordial, unmanifest state of existence — the source from which all worlds emerge.
Lord Shiva – Vishnu’s Aradhya
A rare and deeply significant element of this artwork is the presence of Lord Shiva in the form of a Shivlinga, worshipped by Lord Vishnu himself.
This depiction reflects the sacred unity of Shaiva and Vaishnava traditions and establishes Lord Shiva as Vishnu’s Aradhya (the one he worships). It conveys the timeless truth that creation, preservation, and dissolution are not separate, but interconnected expressions of the same Supreme Reality.
Devas, Indra & Sages
Lord Indra, king of the Devas and bearer of a thousand eyes, is present among other Devas and demi-gods, all standing in reverence. Their presence symbolizes cosmic governance, vigilance, and divine order.
Alongside them are great sages (Rishis), embodying wisdom, dharma, and spiritual law, witnessing this sacred cosmic moment.
Humanity at the Base
At the lower portion of the composition, human beings are shown worshipping and serving Vishnu with devotion. This signifies that divine grace flows across all realms — celestial, earthly, and spiritual — reminding us that humanity remains an integral part of the cosmic order.
